ABOUT:
The Library’s Adult Winter Reading Program was a yearly initiative to provide patrons with a collection of books to explore during the cold-weather months when staying indoors with a good read is appealing to many. Collaborating with the Director of Readers Services, she and I settled on a theme of “love gone wrong” for the 2015 edition, which allowed for an entertaining twist on stereotypical genre romance or love stories. I proposed the title Love on the Rocks, and designed a visual identity for the program that largely consisted of retro images of couples or romance imagery, playfully edited and reworked to fit the theme.
I developed an array of promotional materials that included posters, bookmarks, and digital graphics. The primary deliverable was a multi-page booklet with a curated collection of suggested book titles that matched the theme. I also wrote marketing copy and collaborated with the Director on managing the rollout of communications and assets for the program.
The Winter Reading Program offered participants a prize for completing and recording five books; to match the “on the rocks” part of this year’s title, I proposed the prize be a commemorative old fashioned tumbler glass with the program’s branding applied. I designed the glass illustration and coordinated production and distribution with an external drinkware vendor.
The synopsis of the WRP that I wrote:
Broken hearts. Bad romance. Star-crossed lovers. Rancid relationships.
The Library's 2015 Adult Winter Reading Program features books that remind us that not every fairy tale ends happily ever after. Many of the stories in this year’s selections don't just tug at heartstrings, they bend and break them.
Get ready for a healthy pour of heartache with Love on the Rocks.
