ABOUT:
National Trails Day is a yearly celebration of public lands, greenways, and trails that takes place on the first Saturday in June. First launched by the American Hiking Society in 1993, communities around the U.S. organize events to encourage people to bike, hike, go boating, and enjoy other outdoor activities and to advocate for preservation and protection of natural spaces.
In the Kansas City region, the Mid-America Regional Council collaborated with county and city parks and recreation departments to commemorate National Trails Day and promote local activities and events. I regularly supported this yearly event by creating a variety of promotional materials and advertising assets and working as part of a planning group consisting of staff from parks and rec teams, local environmental organizations, and MARC.
For this example from the 2011 campaign, I created original illustrations that depicted a handful of outdoor activities, incorporating them into designs for posters, promo cards, digital graphics for websites, and other materials that were distributed to partners and displayed throughout the metro.
