The Kansas City Public Library joined with the National World War I Museum and Memorial in 2014 for The Great War | Great Read – a commemoration of the centennial of World War I that centered around a community-wide reading and discussion of two classic books: Erich Maria Remarque’s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, and Barbara W. Tuchman’s Pulitzer Prize-winning history, The Guns of August.
The series included book discussions, film screenings, speaker programs, special tours at the museum, and other public speaker events. Several hundred copies of both books were made available for checkout from Library locations.
I developed a visual identity for the initiative, produced a booklet with the full schedule of speaker events and activities. and created a suite of digital graphics that were used for online promotion and the in-person presentations.
